BSADD and IEEE Computer Society BUET Student Branch Chapter arranged a webinar series titled “Women In Tech”. This webinar series was to introduce young computer science students especially women with various academic and industrial aspects of technology and CS. The relevant event is the ninth episode of the series. 

The webinar started at 10:00 pm, with our hosts introducing the speakers: Rifat Joyee and Persia Aziz. Rifat Joyee is currently a senior software engineer at Amazon Music and has been working for Amazon since 2017. She graduated from the department of CSE, BUET in 2007. Just after graduation, she joined Microsoft as a software developer engineer. In 2012, she completed her MS in Artificial intelligence/Data mining from Stanford University. After her MS she rejoined Microsoft, now as a software engineer, working in media platforms and later joined Skype. She also worked with infrastructure and big data at Lyft for a year.

Persia Aziz is currently a software engineer at Microsoft, developing solutions for special workloads in Microsoft Azure. She completed her BSc in CSE from BUET in 2011. After graduation she joined Samsung R&D, Bangladesh and left as a senior software engineer in 2013. She completed her MS in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2016. During this time she also worked as a teaching assistant in the department and as an intern at Yahoo. She is also a committer at Apache Software foundation.

In this episode we had two esteemed guests working for Amazon and Microsoft and heard about how it’s like to be working for a big tech company. We also discussed the interview process, preparation steps and strategies to develop both technical and soft skills.
