Towards IEEEXtreme 14.0: Hear from the Experts

IEEE BUET Student Branch and IEEE Computer Society BUET Student Branch Chapter jointly arranged a webinar titled “Towards IEEEXtreme: Hear from the Experts”. The purpose of this webinar was to familiarize the participants with IEEEXtreme, the premier competition of IEEE, a 24-hour event which is hosted simultaneously around the world.

The speakers of the webinar were Tanveer Muttaqueen, Arghya Pal & H. M. Ashiqul Islam, ACM ICPC World Finalists in 2019 and 2020 and the latter was the team member of RavenclawBUET, the team which became the national champion in IEEEXtreme 10.0, 11.0 & 12.0, securing 22nd position worldwide in 12.0. Fifty (50) participants, from different universities of Bangladesh attended the webinar directly on Zoom. 

The webinar started at 07:00 P.M. with Kazi Sajeed Mehrab, the Chair of IEEE Computer Society BUET Student Branch Chapter, introducing the three speakers of the session, the Student Ambassador of Xtreme 14.0 from IEEE BUET Student Branch, Nusrat Subah Binte Shakhawat and Satyaki Banik, The Chair of IEEE BUET Student Branch. Then H. M. Ashiqul Islam introduced the concept of competitive programming and ways to start competitive programming. He also introduced different platforms for competitive programming like Codeforces, Atcoder, Lightoj, UVa etc. After that, Tanveer Muttaqueen and Arghya Pal talked about the techniques to effectively use time in a 24-hour contest and strategies to coordinate efforts of the teammates. It was an interactive session where some participants asked questions about beginner strategies and others asked how they can improve themselves. 

Next, Nusrat Subah Binte Shakhawat explained the rules of IEEEXtreme 14.0 and how BUET Student Branch can help the participants. Satyaki Banik explained how one can easily activate IEEE membership and register for IEEEXtreme 14.0. The event ended with a note of thanks from the speakers and the hosts to the participants.
